Badung (Atnews) - More than 600 yoga enthusiasts gathered at the scenic Lapangan Budaya Giri Nata Mandala within the Badung Regency Government Centre for the Curtain Raiser of the 12th International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2026. The event was jointly organized by the Consulate General of India (CGI) in Bali and the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC) Bali as part of a series of activities leading up to International Day of Yoga 2026.
Addressing the gathering, Consul General of India in Bali, Dr. Shashank Vikram, expressed his sincere appreciation to all participants, including members of the Badung Happy Movement Yoga Community and various other yoga groups, for their enthusiastic participation and contribution to the success of the event.
He noted that the Curtain Raiser is part of more than 40 pre-events being organized by CGI Bali in the lead-up to the 12th International Day of Yoga 2026, reflecting the growing popularity of yoga and its role in promoting holistic health and well-being.
Representing the Regent of Badung, Mr. I Wayan Wijana, Assistant III of the Badung Regency Government, delivered the Regent’s remarks and welcomed the participants to Badung Regency. He appreciated the continued collaboration between the Government of Badung and the Consulate General of India in promoting health, wellness, and cultural exchange through yoga. He also highlighted the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles and fostering community well-being through activities such as yoga.
Held under the theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” the session was led by Yoga Guru and former Director of SVCC Bali, Mr. Naveen Meghwal. During the session, he emphasized the significant role of yoga in fostering physical vitality, mental well-being, and healthy ageing. Through a series of guided yoga practices, participants experienced how yoga can support a balanced, active, and healthier lifestyle at every stage of life.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from yoga practitioners, community leaders, government officials, and members of the public, further reinforcing the message of yoga as a valuable tool for achieving harmony between mind and body while promoting healthy ageing.
The Consulate General of India in Bali will continue organizing a series of yoga-related activities across Bali in the weeks ahead, culminating in the grand celebration of the 12th International Day of Yoga on 21 June 2026. (Z/002)
