Denpasar (Atnews) - CGI and SVCC Bali, in proud collaboration with Sangamam Global Academy, presented a spellbinding cultural showcase at the 47th Bali Arts Festival, held at the prestigious Ksirarnawa Auditorium, Art Centre, Denpasar. This vibrant evening of Indian classical dance and Indo-Balinese collaboration highlighted the enduring cultural bond between India and Bali.
As we all know that there are many cultural similarities between India and Bali, the art, dance, music in Bali is quite similar to India, Ramayana and Mahabharata also have a very deep impact in Balinese culture. Keeping all this in mind and to make the cultural relations between India and Bali stronger, the Government of India established a cultural centre in Bali in 2005. Since then, ICCR in Bali (Swami Vivekananda Cultural Center, Bali) represented the cultural image of India by conducting countless programs throughout Bali. These programs include workshops and performance on dance, music, yoga, art, Indian cinema, Indian cuisine, India Day, India Corner, cultural conferences and Indian festivals.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Prof. I Wayan Dibia, representing the Culture Department of the Bali Province followed by Shri Naveen Meghwal, Director of SVCC Bali, and Dr. Shashank Vikram, Consul General of India in Bali, who spoke about the significance of cultural diplomacy and the enriching exchange of traditional arts.
The highlight of the evening was the grand dance drama “Shiva Tandava”, a dynamic and spiritually charged presentation of Lord Shiva's cosmic dance. This powerful performance brought together four renowned Gurus and their ensembles:
Laasya Academy of Dance
Natanam Institute of Dance
Natyabhyravi Dance School
Shivapriya School of Dance
Their synchronized artistry and expressive storytelling enthralled the audience, offering a profound glimpse into the energy and depth of Indian classical dance.
The program opened with “Gaaye Jaa”, a vibrant fusion of Kathak and Balinese dance, performed by SVCC Bali students and choreographed by Mrs. Pooja Bhatnagar. This cross-cultural piece celebrated harmony in diversity and was met with warm applause.
Following this was “Bhaktitridhara”, a seamless collaboration of Bharatanatyam and Kathak, led by acclaimed Indian dancer Siddharth Bhagchandani and his ensemble. Their performance showcased devotion, discipline, and technical brilliance, leaving the audience deeply moved.
